Benjamin Rawlinson was born October 12, 1727 in Kent County, Maryland as recorded in Register of St. Paul's Parish, Kent County, Maryland 1650-1818. He is the father of the seven children shown in the statement documented by James Rawlinson. The six brothers and one sister are documented as per document of James Rawlinson of Richland County, South Carolina dated in 1850. Military records of the five brothers during the American Revolution on file in the South Carolina State Archives in Columbia, South Carolina. The name was spelled as it sounded to whomever was writing the document, so various spellings of the different brothers names. All the brothers except James were soldiers of the American Revolution. Benjamin Rawlinson was living when his daughter Patience Rawlinson married Gideon Griffon at the home of her father about 1790-91according to James Rawlinson statement. Benjamin Rawlinson, Sr. is believed to be the son of John and Avis Rawlinson of Kent County, Maryland and the same Benjamin shown on the Parish Register of Kent County, Maryland.

James Rawlinson is the son of Benjamin Rawlinson, Sr who was Born October 12, 1727 in Kent County, Maryland.

James Rawlinson gave a deposition in 1850 at the age of eighty seven in Richland County, South Carolina. He stated that his five brothers who served in the South Carolina Milita from Richland District, the only Rawlinsons who served in the South Carolina Militia from Richland were, Benjamin, John, William, George and Richard. James Rawlinson also stated in his deposition in 1850 at the age of eighty seven in Richland County that one brother did not survive the war.

Their brother-in-law, Gideon Griffin, who married their sister, Patience, also served in the South Carolina Milita from Richland District during the American Revolution.

Notes for BENJAMIN RAWLINSON, JR:

Benjamin Rawlinson was born about 1745 in North Carolina. He is the son of Benjamin Rawlinson, Sr who was born October 12, 1727 In Kent County, Maryland.

Benjamin Rawlinson obtained a Royal Grant for 200 acres situated in the fork of the Congaree and Wateree Rivers in Sough Carolina on March 11, 1768. This is shown in Plat Book 10, 1765-69 on page 210. On February 13, 1770 he obtained addition 100 acres as shown in Plat Book 11, Part 2, 1769-1776 on Page 447 in the SC State Archives.

On February 13, 1770 he also was granted a tract of 640 acres in the District of Camden. He bought 200 acres on October 11, 1787 for 4 pounds 13/4 Sterling money located on the head of a creek called Big Creek in the District of Camden. These grants are shown in Richland County Grant Book, Volume 21 page 345,346.

Benjamin Rawlinson served in the South Carolina Militia from Richland District during the American Revolution. He served with his brothers William, John, Richard and George. Benjamin served as a

foot soldier under Lieutenant William Pearson October 19, 1781 to December 19, 1781 at Orangeburg, South Carolina. He also served from April 1, 1782 to May 1, 1872 at Orangeburg. He served as a wagoner and repaired wagons during the War.

Benjamin served in the Richland County Militia and is shown on the roll on September 11, 1794 as an Alarm Man. He was serving under Captain Green Rives.

He was a farmer and blacksmith. In his will he requested his estate be divided between his three sons, Benjamin, Samuel and John and his daughter, Johanna Martin. His will provided that his son George and his wife Christine, have the use of his plantation that was his home consisting of 200 acres during their life and at their decease sold to the highest bidder and divided among his remaining heirs. the names of his daughters-in-law are shown in the will. The estate was finally settled in 1835 at the death

of his son , George.

Benjamin Rawlinson died in Richland County, South Carolina in May 1810.

3. JOHN2 ROLLISON (BENJAMIN1 RAWLINSON, SR)14 was born Abt. 1749 in Richland County, South Carolina, and died Aft. 1801 in Glen County, Georgia. He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for JOHN ROLLISON:

John Rollison (Rawlinson) was born in Richland County, South Carolina prior to 1751. He is the son of Benjamin Rawlinson, Sr. born October 12, 1727 in Kent County, Maryland.

John Rollinson was granted 100 acres of land in March of 1771 from the King. The land is in the fork of the Wateree and Congaree Rivers in Old Craven County, now Richland County, South Carolina.

He later moved to Effingham County, Georgia in the late 1780's. He was granted 200 acres in Effingham County, Georgia on June 13, 1789. He received two more grants of land with a total of 300 acres. John Rollison had moved to Glenn County (Now Wayne) by January 2, 1801 when he sold the land in Effingham County. He apparently lived the rest of his life in the Glenn County area.

In 1814 Captain William Cone made an affidavit to obtain the right to vote for William Rollison. It is

recorded in Wayne County and states that William Cone had known the mother of William, Noel and Fanny Rollinson since she had nursed William, and that she was a fair, white skinned woman and that he also knew John Rollinson and that he was said to be their father.

John Rollison was a Revolutionary War Soldier, having served in the South Carolina Militia, Richland district. He served as a private under Colonel Benton of General Marion's Brigade. He served with Benjamin, Richard, William and George Rollison. On April 5, 1860 James Rawlinson made a deposition stating he was eighty eight years of age and he was living in the Richland District during the Revolutionary War. He further stated he had five brothers who served in the war, one of whom did not survive the war.

The spelling of the name Raulerson was first used on July 20,1813 when David B. Mitchell, Governor of State of Georgia issued a military commission to Jacob Raulerson, son of John Rollison as Lieutenant of the 335th District of Militia in Wayne County, Georgia. This is the first time the surname had been

spelled this as Raulerson. It had previously been spelled Rollison/Rawlinson/Rolyson depending on

you wrote the name. After 1813 all the brothers eventually adopted the spelling shown on the military

commission.

John Rollison probably died in Glynn County, Georgia, that part now Wayne County, after 1801 at which time he had sold his land holdings in Effingham County, Georgia, as recorded in Effingham County records.

4. WILLIAM2 RAWLINSON (BENJAMIN1)15 was born 1759 in North Caroliina, and died October 1836 in Autauga County, Alabama. He married UNKNOWN.

Notes for WILLIAM RAWLINSON:

William Rawlinson was born in North Carolina in 1759 as stated on his pension application on April 13, 1833. He is the son of Benjamin Rawlinson, Sr. born October 12, 1727 in Kent County, Maryland. The names of Williams wife and mother are unknown at this time. William Rawlinson was an early settler in South Carolina. In 1776 William Rawlinson subsituted himself in the place of Joseph Martin for service in the American Revolution and was stationed at Charleston. He served in the South Carolina Regiment of Continental Troops under the command of General Moultrie. In May of 1777 he was serving under Captain Holley Risbey and Colonel Sumter. He later served in the South Carolina Militia with his brothers Benjamin, John, George and Richard Rawlinson. William Rawlinson received 8 pounds 18 shillings Sterling money for service of 125 days in the militia from March 15 to July 15, 1779 on July 27, 1885.

William joined with other family members on a wagon train to journey westward from Richmond County, South Carolina to new home sites. William Rawlinson and some of the family stopped in Autuaga County, Alabama and made that their home. Others continued on to Texas to live. William bought one hundred acres near Autaugaville on May 28, 1831 from John P. Dejarnette.

William applied for a Revolutionary War pension on April 15, 1833. He stated he was living in Richland

County, South Carolina, eighteen miles below Columbia on the Congaree and lived in the same District

until 1822. He then lived in Autauga County in Alabama and now lived in the last mentioned place.

His pension passed and was granted.

William Rolinson/Rawlinon died October of 1836 in Autauga County, Alabama.

Notes for GEORGE RAWLINSON:

George Rawlinson was born in 1765 in Richland County, South Carolina. He was the son of Benjamin Rawlinson, born about 1745. The name of his mother is unknown. George Rawlinson first married Christena. It is not known if she died or they were divorced. George inherited a life estate in the 200 acres of his father's home place. He later acquired a tract of 50 acres in Richland District on Griffin's Creek purchased on December 28, 1831 for $100.00. He also bought a tract of 900 acres situated in the fork of the Congaree and Wateree Rivers. This was conveyed to George by the Sheriff of Richland District on February 1, 1824. In 1808 and 1814 George drew up wills barring his wife Christena and other family members inheriting any of his estate and assigning his estate to Joel Adams, Sr. and Joel's heirs. George married Mary Elizabeth Morgan in 1820. George and Mary Elizabeth had four sons. After his second marriage the previous wills were destroyed and when George died in 1835 he died intestate. George was a very successful planter, growing cotton which was shipped by water to the coast for export. After his death his widow, Mary Elizabeth married the plantation overseer, Gilbert Garner. The sons went to Yorkville were they were educated. The elder three settled there, but the youngest, Charles returned to live in Eastover.

Mary Elizabeth and her second husband Gilber Garner filed a Bill of Partition of the estate of George

Rawlinson on January 15, 1839. The bill stated he had possessed a large estate, containing two or three tracts of land, between sixth and seventh slaves, horses, mules, cattle, sheep, hogs, household

furnishings and considerable money. On December 15, 1838 a survey was made of 884 acres lying on

both sides of Griffin's Creek and the Congaree River and Gilbert Garner and his wife Mary Elizabeth were awarded a part containing 284 acres, being the late residence of George Rawlinson. The minor heirs were awarded the balance containing 600 acres. An appraisal was made if George Rawlinson's estate and completed February 5, 1839. Land were appraised at $16,260.00, sixty eight slaves at

$33,925 and personal property exclusive of money $1,341.73. The entire estate exclusive of money was $51,526.73.

The place of burial of George Rawlinson and Mary Elizabeth Morgan Rawlinson Garner is unknown.

Notes for JACOB RAULERSON:

Jacob Raulerson was born in South Carolina on September 26, 1778. He came to Georgia when young.

He settled in Appling County, Georgia in 1819.

Jacob served in the Georgia State Militia during the War of 1812. He was commissioned on July 20, 1813 as a Lieutenant of the 33rd District Company of the Militia. In 1814 -15 he served as a mounted spy in the Wayne County Militia, serving under Captain Richard Walker at Fort Wayne.

Jacob Raulerson married three times. His first wife was Nancy Baggs, whom he married in 1798. They had eleven children. Nancy Raulerson died June 7, 1828. Jacob then married on September 8, 1828 Mrs. Courtney Keightly Stewart. Jacob and Courtney had four children and she died after 1838. He married for the third time, Mrs Mary Ann Purdon in 1848.

Jacob Raulerson's will was dated April 22, 1857 and was probated on November 2, 1857. He is buried

in the Raulerson Cemetery in Pierce County, Georgia.

Notes for WILLIAM RAULERSON:

William Raulerson was born in 1780 in South Carolina. He moved to Appling County, Georgia. At an early age he married Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Caleb Moore in McIntosh County, Georgia. William Raulerson served in the War of 1812 as a mounted spy in the Wayne County Militia. He served under Captain Richard Walker and was stationed at Fort Wayne, Georgia.

William and Elizabeth Raulerson were members of High Bluff Primitive Baptist church in what was then

Ware County, but now Brantley County. They were dismissed by letter on February 12, 1825 and moved

soon thereafter to Columbia County. They settled near the St. Marys River near Fort Moniac.

William Rollerson(Raulerson) was one of 105 men signing a petition to Congress on January 25, 1814 to ceed the District of Elotchanay in the Republic of East Florida to the United States as a Territory.

On February 2, 1843 William Raulison(Raulerson) received authorization to operate a ferry across the North Prong of the St. Marys River for a term of five years. The ferry was to be established one mile from Fort Moniac.

William Raulerson died in Columbia County, Florida (now Baker) in 1858. Elizabeth Raulerson died in

Polk county, Florida in 1867 and is buried in Lakeland, Florida in Gayway Cemetery in the Hull family row.

Notes for NOEL RAULERSON:

Noel Raulerson was born about 1790 in South Carolina, the son of John Rollison. The family was living

in Wayne County, Georgia in the early 1800's. He married an unknown lady and had one daughter. On August 3, 1815 Noel Raulerson married Eleanor Baggs West Brannen in Camden County, Georgia. There were 5 children born of this marriage.

Noel served in the 745th Battalion of Georgia Militia under Captain William Walker in the winter of 1813.

In the winter of 1814-15 he also served in Captain Richard Walker's Wayne County Mounted Volunteers at Fort Wayne defending against an Indian attack.

Noel Raulerson signed an affidavit in Camden County, Georgia on March 18, 1822. that he was the lawful owner of a Negro man slave named Abraham about thirty years of age and was now about to be brought into the state of Georgia from the Province of East Florida. He stated he was a resident of Appling County, Georgia.

Noel Raulerson was one of the first two settlers in the Lake City, Florida area of Columbia County. He

had built a home prior to 1822 at the location that would later be the site of the Columbia County Courthouse. He did not remain there long but returned to Wayne County, Georgia. Noel died about 1830 and was buried on the farm of his brother Jacob Raulerson. His widow then moved to north Florida to

be near his brother William Raulerson.

Notes for ELEANOR BAGGS:

Eleanor Baggs was born May 6, 1785, the daughter of Thomas and Hannah Baggs. She married three times, J Martin West, John M Brannen, and Noel Raulerson. J Martin West died before 1806 and Eleanor had married John M Brannen as John and Eleanor Brannen applied for administration of the estate of Martin West in McIntosh County, Georgia June 7, 1806. On August 16, 1806 John Brannen applied for administration of Mrs. Hannah Baggs, late of McIntosh County. It is not known if John Brannen died or they were divorced, but she married Noel Raulerson on August 3, 1815 in Camden County, Georgia. After Noel Raulerson's death Eleanor Raulerson moved to present day Baker County

with her children, and lived near her brother-in-law, William Raulerson.

On January 4, 1841 in Wayne County, Georgia records Joel Curry, Guardian stated he had received of

Jacob Raulerson, Administrator, $285.62 1/2 cents in full of William Raulerson Legacy orphan of Noel

Raulerson, deceased. Joel Curry was the son-in-law of Eleanor Baggs Raulerson. Also, Received of Jacob Raulerson Administrator of the Estate of Noel Raulerson deceased $571.25 in full of the Legacy left John and Aremitha Raulerson orphans of Noel Raulerson deceased by Elender Raulerson.

Eleanor Raulerson is shown in the 1830 Census of Alachua County, Florida with 10 children in the house. She is living in Columbia County in 1840. Eleanor Raulerson and her family moved to Hillsborough county in 1844. In 1850 and 1860 she is shown living in Hillsborough County with her son, John Baggs Raulerson. Eleanor Raulerson died June 1866. She is buried in Mt. Shilo Cemetery in Plant City, Florida.

Notes for NIMROD RAULERSON:

Nimrod Raulerson, son of John Raulerson, was born in 1795 in South Carolina. He moved to Georgia and was living in Wayne County in 1820. On April 22, 1820 Nimrod married Sarah Dukes. The family

moved to the Baker County, Florida area. Sarah Raulerson was killed by Indians on the evening of April 1, 1839 near Fort Moniac. Nimrod later married Nancy Roberson.

Nimrod served in the 74th Battalion in the 33rd Militia District in Georgia in 1813. In 1814 and 1815 he served as a mounted spy in the Wayne County Militia. He served under Captain Richard Walker. He was living in the 451st Militia District of Wayne county and was a 1st Lieutenant from March 23, 1834 to October 3, 1836. Nimrod served in Florida in the Seminole Indian War having enlisted on July 19, 1837 at Deep Creek, Jacksonville, Florida. He was mustered out on December 19, 1837.

He is shown in Wayne County in 1840 and in Baker (Columbia) County, Florida in 1850. He died in Baker County in August 20, 1858 and is buried in the Crews Cemetery, which is located at the edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, one mile northeast of Baxter in Baker County, Florida with an unmarked grave. His widow was pregnant when he died and the youngest child was born six months after his death. She applied for an Indian War widow's pension on June 7, 1893 and stated he served his first enlistment in the Indian War under Captain William North. He served a second enlistment in 1837 for six months under Captain William Haddock.

Nathaniel Rawlinson, son of William Rolison/Rawlinson was barn in Richland County, South Carolina in

1787. Nathaniel married in South Carolina a lady whose name is unknown. His second wife was named Elizabeth, maiden name unknown, in Richland County, South Carolina. It is not know which children are by each wife.

He enrolled in Captain William Taylor, Jr.'s Company of Infantry, 2nd regiment South Carolina Militia in October 1814. It was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Adam McWillie At Maddrill's Point near Columbia in Richland County. He was enrolled for service in the War of 1812 with Great Britian.

Nathaniel Rawlinson served until March 9, 1815 and was discharged at Charleston, South Carolina. He

received eight dollars per month as a private.

Nathaniel Rawlinson and his father William Rawlinson participated in an estate sale of property belonging to William's deceased brother Benjamin Rawlinson, Jr. The sale was held in Richland County at the plantation of the deceased on April 15, 1816.

In 1822 Nathaniel and his family joined his father, William, and other Rawlinson family members travelling west. They settled in Autauga County, Alabama. Nathaniel and his family were living in Coosa County, Alabama in 1840. By 1847 he had moved to Nacogdoches County, Texas.

Nathaniel Rawlinson is listed as an heir in his father William's will dated October 10, 1836 in Autauga County, Alabama.

Nathaniel made an application bounty land on September 20, 1855 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. Hew received Bounty Land Warrent Number 221853 granted March 20, 1857 for eighty acres.

Nathaniel Rawlinson, died in Nacogdoches County about 1859. He was buried in a marked grave at Big Rock near Cushing, Texas. The dates and places of burial of Nathaniel's two wives are unknown.

Notes for NICHABOD RAULERSON:

Nichabod Raulerson was born July 20, 1799 in Bryan County, Georgia. He grew up in Wayne County and moved to Lowndes County where he lived until 1835. He served as Justice of Peace from 1829-1833 serving in the 661st District. He moved to Columbia County, Florida and lived there until

his death in January 1875. He served as Justice of the Peace in Columbia County from 1845-1847.

He served in several Seminole War campaigns. He was in Captain William Reed's Florida Volunteers from September 23, 1836 to January 27, 1837. He was in Captain James Niblack's Company Florida Militia from January 27, 1837 to June 15, 1837 having enrolled at Ft. Lancaster. He served in Captain A. A. Stewart's Company Florida Volunteers as 1st Lieutenant from August 18, 1840 to November 28, 1850 and from November 29, 1840 to March 6, 1841.

Nichabod Raulerson married three times, the first to Lucretia Towler. They were apparently divorced about 1850. There is a deed dated January 29, 1850 recorded January 23, 1904 in Columbia County, Florida in which Nicebod Raulerson and "His former wife Lucretia Trowler sold land to A. Daughtry. She seems to have assumed the name she used prior to her marriage to Nicebod.

Nichabod then married Margaret Motte. He later married Ellen Matilda Brill.

Nichabod Raulerson died in Columbia County and was buried in Corinth Cemetery.

Matilda Raulerson made a declaration of Widow for pension on March 12, 1893, stating she was 63 years of age, having been born October 17, 1830 in Columbia County, Florida and that she had received 160 acres of Bounty land as widow of Nichabod Raulerson and that she had lived at Lake City, Florida since his death. She stated she was married to said husband under the name of Matilda Brill on February 3, 1863 and that her husband had died at Lake City, Florida. She was awarded an Indian War Widows Pension #5141 at the rate of $8.00 per month commencing July 27, 1892 which she received until her death in 1919.
